Verde Canyon

Today was another fabulous excursion day, this time by train up Verde Canyon to Perkinsville ghost ranch. The train passes towering crimson pinnacles, near ancient Indian ruins, over fortified trestles, past a monocline fault, and through a man-made 680 foot tunnel. This historic ribbon of steel follows the  upper Verde River, a lush riparian habitat, and yes we did see several bald eagles.

No, Don didn't drive, but we did have great views all the way up and down the valley.

The excursion was complementary of our "time share" sales presentation. We didn't expect free drinks and food but we enjoyed them on the trip.

The train left Clarkdale, at 1 and slowly climbed the valley giving us great views of the bald eagles and mule deer that live in this part of Arizona.

We spent most of our time in the "open-air car" where we had great 360* views.  Yes I did wear my hat but by the end of the day you wouldn't know it. Check out Carol's hat.  She looks great in it.  Now she's looking for cowboy boots and a horse. She may be riding home.

Finally after two hours of climbing higher into the valley we arrived at Perkinsville ghost ranch.. It is now owned by one family. The ranch consists of 2,000 acres of very dry Arizona territory.
