ELDERBERRIES

Elderberries grow wild by the side of the road wherever they can get their feet wet. Yesterday we drove out to our favourite spot to see if they were ready for picking.

Some were, some weren't but we did manage to fill two bags in short order.

Picking is the easy part. Once home you have the task of getting the tiny berry off the stem. Some people use a fork, we just use our fingers.

These tiny berries are delicious in a pie and make a very healthy drink excellent for fighting colds and sore throats.

This year Mary made an elderberry tincture which needs to sit and marinate for three months.

It is made from elderberries, dried calendula, and gin.

Hopefully this will keep the colds away and we will enjoy a healthy winter by our wood stove.

Thanks for stopping by and safe travels everyone.
